Definition and Production Process of Polyester DTY
Polyester DTY (DTY) is a type of deformed yarn of polyester chemical fiber. It uses polyester chips (PET) as the starting material and is made into polyester pre-oriented yarn (POY) through a high-speed spinning process. The molecular structure of POY yarn is in a partially oriented state and has a certain strength. POY yarn is sent to the drafting and false twisting equipment for processing. During the drafting process, the yarn is stretched to a certain multiple, which further orients the molecular chains and thus enhances the strength of the fiber. The false twisting device gives the yarn a certain twist. When the yarn leaves the false twister, the twist disappears, but due to the heat setting effect, the yarn maintains a curled shape, forming a polyester DTY with elasticity and fluffy.
Performance characteristics of polyester DTY
Polyester DTY usually has a certain elasticity and shrinkage. Its elasticity comes from the curled structure formed by the false twisting process. When stretched by external force, the curled fiber straightens, and can recover a partial curling state after the external force is removed. Shrinkage is the shrinkage of the fiber when heated, which can be used to adjust the dimensional stability and style of the fabric during the finishing process. DTY yarn is available in a variety of deniers and filament counts. Polyester DTY of different deniers is suitable for different application scenarios. Fine denier yarns, especially trilobal shaped fine denier yarns, have a soft feel and good drape, suitable for making imitation silk fabrics. Medium-coarse denier yarns can be used to make imitation wool fabrics. Their thicker diameter can simulate the texture of wool fibers, giving the fabric a full and crisp appearance. Polyester low-stretch yarn can present a variety of colors, which is achieved by adding masterbatch for solution dyeing during the spinning process or dyeing in the subsequent processing process.
Special variants of polyester DTY
Cationic DTY yarn is a special variant of polyester DTY. It is produced by chemically modifying polyester chips and introducing groups that can bind to cationic dyes, so that the fiber can be dyed with cationic dyes. After dyeing, this yarn has bright colors, high color fastness, and good antistatic properties. Solution-dyed polyester yarn is a process in which pigments or dyes are added to the polyester chips during synthesis, so that the fibers are colored at the beginning of their formation. This dyeing method has many advantages over the traditional post-dyeing process. Since the dye is evenly distributed inside the fiber, the dyeing fastness is higher and it is not easy to fade. Even after multiple washings and long-term use, the color remains bright. Solution dyeing reduces the consumption of water resources and the use of chemicals in the post-dyeing process, which is more environmentally friendly. Low shrinkage DTY yarn has a lower heat shrinkage rate by adjusting process parameters and fiber structure during production. This yarn can maintain relative dimensional stability during fabric processing and is not prone to significant shrinkage deformation due to heat.
